Need something to fill in the space between now and November? Are you in the South West? Got a fiver buring a hole in your pocket? If Yes then you’ll be interested in heading towards Bath for BathCamp
A BarCamp is a type of participatory conference (or unconference, if you prefer), where everyone is encouraged to give short presentations, demos, workshops and so on, in a kind of ad-hoc, not very pre-planned kind of fashion. There’s also an overnight element, where attendees can literally camp out and hang out, either discussing stuff or making stuff (or both).
BathCamp will be happening on 13th/14th September 2008 at Invention Studios, Bath. You can now book online. It’s a fiver. To keep up to date with these people check out their Blog
Even though we’ve filled out speakers out this year I’m please to say that Elliot will be joining us in Novemeber as a panel member.
Elliot is now a freelance designer after recently leaving the Carsonified crew which was followed by a trip to Norway. He has also recently been interviewed on boagworld and spoken a plenty of other events.
It’s time for a fresher look for the WDC site. With our second event only 5 months away I want to set an example in design type stuff as well as usability to see if I can’t create something amazing both in how it looks and works.
As always I’m keeping the wordpress base as it’s a nice little base for the site. If you’ve book marked the pages don’t worry they won’t change URL just the way they look.
If you have any ideas don’t hesitate to Contact Us.
Some of you may not know me or been given a business card and with recent discovery of the amount of interest in this little event I have now introduced a contact form to the site.
The Contact Us Form has a couple of nice little features, one is being able to CC yourself in on the email so you’ve got a record and the other is the human test at the bottom. Answer correctly and I’ll get your email and responded if needed.
With the build up to this years event going strong we are pleased to annouce that Existem are first to sign up and sponser this years WDC event. This is an important milestone in the so far, short history of the WDC and I hope we can bring you an even better event.
Existem are excited to be supporting the WDC this year and investing in the immense talent we have in Bristol and the South West.
As a growing web development company we always endeavour to incorporate in our projects the latest design concepts and new technologies from the ever evolving and fast paced web.
We look forward to supporting Alex and the team both this year and in the future, and look forward meeting you and sharing a few beers with you after the conference!
Our first speaker on the list is James Box from Clearleft. He’ll be joining us on the day to talk about Information Architecture and it’s importance in Web Design and Developement. It’ll be a great talk for new second year students as one of their modules if on IA.
Thanks to everyone who came along to the WDC 2007 and made it a great sucess. This time we’re going to start planning a little bit earlier and hopefully make this one even better than the first. To help with this the event will be happening later on in the year around October/November time give a change for more second year, placement students and third year students a chance to attend.
Please be sure to stay around for a drink as it’s probably the only chance you’ll get to sit back and relax with these guys without having to pay anything more than the beer in your hand.
I’m open to ideas for the event so if you have any please email me at alex@webdevconf.co.uk and if we can sort them out we will.
2007’s WDC is over, I will be writing everything up soon with a host of pictures take at the event for people to see. Thanks to everyone who spoke or sat on a panel as well as all the students who attended and stayed to the end.
Special thanks to Dan Dixon and UWE for the event funding, next time we’ll get some big name guys in and possibly some goodies… but we’ll have to wait and see.
If you haven’t noticed a link to some Forums has appeared on the top. This provides you with the chance to provide feedback and suggestions for the event so we can take everything on board for next years event.
This time next week and it’ll all be over for 2007!
I am looking forward to it, from what I’ve heard from Dan we’ve got great speakers lined up with some great panels. Check the speakers page for more.
I’ve also added a forum to the site which will allow feedback etc of the conference by people attending as well as suggestions for next years event and the year after if you having nothing.
A quick time out to thank everyone who’s helped me out with this, most of all to Dan Dixon as without his support and contacts this probably wouldn’t have happened in the first place.
Be sure to check out the blog for a few quick posts on the day.
